Since taking home the Academy Award for his exceptional performance in Moonlight, Mahershala Ali has been spending time with his family and has been extremely careful about the roles he’s selected.
In addition to the upcoming film, Green Book, which has garnered the actor Oscar buzz once again, Ali is returning to TV in HBO’s critically acclaimed drama, True Detective.
In the third season of the limited series, Ali plays Detective Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. Wayne and his partner, Roland West — portrayed by Stephen Dorff — attempt to get to the bottom of a shocking crime involving two missing children in Ozarks, Arkansas.
The series spans three decades and the case leaves Wayne, and the entire community, haunted.
“Things I’ve seen, things I know, wouldn’t do anything but cause harm,” Wayne says in the eerie new trailer for the series.
In addition to Ali and Dorff, True Detective stars Carmen Ejogo, Josh Hopkins, Scoot McNairy, Mamie Gummer, Lonnie Chavis, Ray Fisher, Michael Greyeyes, Jon Tenney, Rhys Wakefield, Sarah Gadon, Emily Nelson, Brandon Flynn and Michael Graziadei.
True Detective returns to HBO on January 13.
