After years of speculation and delays, it looks like film fans will finally get their wish fulfilled to see Will Smith and Martin Lawrence team up again.
The actor and comedian took to Instagram to confirm the next installment of the popular buddy cop action film, Bad Boys, is actually going to happen.
“It’s official. Bad Boys for Life,” the actor wrote as the caption, using the hashtags: #teammartymar, #badboysforlife and the ever fitting tag, #weback.
Still, according to CinemaBlend, the film will be titled Bad Boys For Life and it’ll hit theaters in January 2020. There’s no word yet on whether or not Bad Boys For Life will also reunite Lawrence and Smith with their on-screen loves, Theresa Randle and Gabrielle Union, but we hope so.
Bad Boys II dropped 15 years ago and grossed nearly $300 worldwide, so a third film seemed like a no brainer, especially given Smith and Lawrence’s star power. Since teaming up for the first Bad Boys film in 1995, both Smith and Lawrence have gone on to build wildly successful careers, both on the big and small screen. Smith, who is one of the most successful movie stars in the world, has several upcoming projects, including Suicide Squad 2 and Bright 2, while Lawrence is currently in the midst of a comedy tour.
Earlier this month, Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch said the studio would only greenlight the third installment of the franchise if it was innovative.
“If we’re going to make another Bad Boys after 15 years, it’s got to be next-level great,” Panitch said then. “The north star for us is wanting our movies to feel different, not done before, not recycled.”
Now that the film is apparently confirmed, it seems audiences are in for a treat.
