Mary J. Blige is making some major power moves with her new gig.
With a surprise appearance, it was announced on Friday that the R&B singer will be the lead in the first spinoff from Starz’s hit show Power –which is set to end next year.
Executive producers Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent both confirmed that Blige’s show will be called Power Book II: Ghost.
“Today we are pleased to announce that we are in pre-production on the first of what we know will be a collection of series inspired by the dynamic world of Power,” said Kemp as Blige walked into the room at the Starz panel at TCA. “Power Book II: Ghost will continue the journey of some of Power’s most controversial characters.”
It was only announced last October that Power creator, Kemp, had signed on to develop more series for Starz through her company End of Episode, including spin-offs of the popular crime drama she developed alongside 50 Cent.
For Blige, she said her new show will mark a new beginning for her.
“This is probably going to be the most exciting thing that will happen to me this year,” she said. “I’ve known so many Tashas, I’ve known so many Ghosts. I’ve dated so many Ghosts. “I’m a huge fan for life, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it.”
