Hip Hop mogul Percy Miller, bka Master P, has plenty in store for the 2017 ESSENCE Festival and it’s now been revealed that he’s also hard at work on the next steps towards bringing a pivotal personal project to life — his long-awaited biopic.
Appropriately titled King of the South, the movie is set to begin filming this summer and will chronicle Miller’s tumultuous childhood as a young man growing up in one of the country’s toughest New Orleans neighborhoods.
The film will also shed light on how he overcame the most difficult of circumstances to later make music industry history with the launch of his now-infamous label, No Limit Records.

Today, the platinum-selling rap artist and respected businessman has built his brand into a multi-million dollar empire that he has consistently used to support ongoing philanthropic efforts benefitting the local New Orleans community. Specifically concerned with increasing economic and educational opportunities for the city’s youth, Miller is hopeful that his life story will inspire others to never give up. He even plans to hold auditions for the film in NOLA.
“The timing is right for me to tell my story,” Miller said in a press release issued earlier this week. “It was tough back then especially being from the south; New Orleans was the murder capital at the time. I want others to learn from my mistakes and understand my work ethic of never giving up, no matter what it may look like.”
Most of all, he hopes to stress the importance of keeping God first while on any journey to success.
“If you believe in yourself, keep your faith in God strong and stay close to your family, you can accomplish anything,” he added. “Life is about choices. There’s no limit to your success if you work hard. I would like to give New Orleans natives an opportunity to play major roles in this film. I want the movie to have an authentic feel. I believe there are so many talented actors and actresses that just need a shot.”
Veteran actor Wendell Pierce and fellow Hip Hop icon Queen Latifah have reportedly signed on to be apart of the project, with additional cast announcements to come. Casting for New Orleans natives will be held on Tuesday, April 4th in Gretna, Louisiana. For additional information, visit kingofthesouthmovie.com.
