Maxwell is giving fans new music with an album not too far behind. On Friday, the R&B singer dropped his sultry new single, “Shame,” the debut track from his upcoming album, Night.
The single sounds like signature Maxwell, exploring feelings around a complicated relationship through soft beats and synths.
In a statement to ESSENCE, the singer called the single a “modern love song.”
“The song is about removing that mask of expectation and letting go of the shame of being real and vulnerable,” he added. “The shadow of shame can only be broken when we unveil ourselves, and recognize that we that we are all human — flawed yet perfect, broken yet stronger with each obstacle.”
“‘Shame’ is a modern love song. Not just romantic love, but love for self and others,” the singer concluded.
Night is expected to drop next year, but until then, check out “Shame” above or on Spotify and Apple Music.
