R&B songstress Monica has long been an artist who advocates for women in music to support each other, but it was still a nice surprise when she took time out of a recent performance in New Jersey to pay musical homage to none other than Lauryn Hill.
Taking to the stage in Ms. Hill’s home state over Thanksgiving weekend as part of Xscape’s reunion tour The Great Xscape, the proud mother of 3 was met with cheers from the audience as she launched into a quick medley of L Boogie classics.
“I recently went to a show and I watched her perform and it made me want to be on stage again,” she told the packed crowd. “You know a woman is powerful when she can inspire you like that, right?”
Monica’s tribute included a performance of two of Lauryn Hill’s biggest hits: “Lost Ones” and “Killing Me Softly.” Per the usual, she slayed both. Watch the video above to see the full tribute.
