Little was known about Crystal Renay (now Smith) when singer, Ne-Yo married the model in Feb 2016.
Surrounded by family and friends, the couple were clearly in bliss having met the year prior when Renay was cast in a project he was working on. In a venue right outside of Los Angeles, the pair tied the knot and have been sharing all their special moments on social media since then.
But social media can only tell you so much about a person— especially the gorgeous 31-year-old wife of a mega star.
“The biggest misconception about me is that I’m mean,” Smith told ESSENCE. “Sometimes I can be very direct and people can misunderstand that especially when women tend to be direct. The truth is I am very kind to the people around me and I like to have fun and be there for my friends and family and make sure they are having a fun time when they are with me as well.”
Smith is set to star on E!’s The Platinum Life, a reality show about seven ladies who are the significant others of famous men. Smith with NE-YO, Asiah Collins with Kid Ink, La’Myia Good with Eric Bellinger, Shantel Jackson with Nelly, Nazanin Mandi with Miguel, Lola Monroe with King Los and Alycia Bella the ex-girlfriend of Ty Dollar $ign all share their worlds on-screen.
“My least favorite thing is the judgements people make about you,” Smith said about misconceptions about her. “People expect you to be this perfect person who never makes mistakes when the truth is we are all still learning and growing every single day just like everyone else. I’m a normal person, I don’t consider myself famous. I’m imperfect in so many ways, but my heart is pure and good.”
So we had to know, when you’re the wife of a multi-millionaire celebrity, what does your day consists of— Smith kept it honest.
“I have always been an independent woman as I had a career in the medical field and was a model before I met my husband,” she said.
“Most mornings my son wakes me up and we get breakfast started together. I go to the gym and then I’m either filming or I’m working on new recipes, which consist of research. Then off to the market to get whatever ingredients I may need and then home to learn a new dish and cook dinner for my family for that evening.”
Adding, “I also try to take my son with me while I run my errands so we can stop at a museum or children’s play place and have some fun! My day-to-day focus is taking care of my family and creating new dishes for them to enhance my culinary career.”
