Set in 1977 New York, The Get Down is a musical drama series following teenagers who find themselves at the precipice of new a culture. Disco is dead and hip-hop is birthed through the music, dance and style of teens living in the South Bronx.
In an empty hair salon, Mylene Cruz (played by Herizen Guardiola), Regina (Shyrley Rodriguez), and Yolanda (Stefanée Martin) discover their own unique sound hidden in the hit 70’s tune, “Turn the Beat Around.” Little do they know, they are on the brink of discovering a genre of music that would forever change we live in.
Directed by Baz Luhrmann and executive produced by Nas and four-time Oscar-winner Catherine Martin and associate produced by the legendary DJ Grandmaster Flash of the Furious Five, The Get Down takes you on a mythical ride back to the moment where hip-hop began.

The rock star cast includes Shameik Moore (Dope), Jaden Smith (The Karate Kid), Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy), Skylan Brooks (Southpaw), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Baywatch), Tremaine Brown Jr., and Justice Smith name a few.
