With the help of Australian film producer Baz Luhrmann and hip hop legend Nas, Netflix gears up to bring you its network series, The Get Down.
The new series takes place in the Bronx, New York in 1977, and depicts music’s transitional era from the end of disco into the birth of hip hop. The Get Down stars Dope‘s Shameik Moore (“Shaolin Fantastic”), Paper Towns actor Justice Smith (“Ezekiel ‘Books’ Figuero”), Jaden Smith (“Dizzee Kipling”) and a number of newcomers including Herizen Guardiola (“Mylene Cruz”) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Cadillac”), and tells the story of a group of artistic kids from the South Bronx “who would [literally] change the world forever.”
New York’s original hip hop tale premieres on Netflix August 12.
