'I Have True Admiration And Respect For Azealia': Nick Cannon On THAT Episode Of 'Wild 'N Out

Nick Cannon has a few thoughts about Azealia Banks’ accusations of colorism following her recent appearance on his show Wild ‘N Out.
Cannon stopped by ESSENCE, where he revealed that he has a lot of “admiration and respect” for the rapper but believes her claims of colorism are just Banks acting out.
“Anybody who can come on the show gets a salute from me,” Cannon said. “But, then to act out the way [Banks] did, it created a lot of controversy. To even go to a level and cry wolf about colorism just says a lot to what she probably deals with daily.”
He added, “I sympathize and empathize with that because things like colorism and judgment, those are real issues that I’m sure she does have to deal with.”
Banks appeared on last weeks episode of the MTV comedy series, where things turned sour after comedian DC Young Fly joked that Banks had only been booked because Cannon couldn’t get Cardi B Banks called the joke “anti-Black.”
Later, the rapper took to social media, where she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, “I did Wildin’ out today. There were tons of pre-planned colorist jokes and of course …. cry baby cried.”
Cannon added that Banks’ behavior after filming the show was likely her dealing with her own internal struggles.
“I think at times, sometimes, our inner demons and the things that we deal with come out,” he said. “The way she displayed after she left, she kind of pulled her own card. And, I think in her mind, that’s a good thing.”
“We make fun of everyone in every way,” Cannon told ESSENCE. “That’s what life is really about. Humor brings healing and sometimes people have so many insecurities that it takes a little bit longer to heal and I think that’s kind of what she was dealing with.”
But, the incident didn’t sour Cannon’s feelings toward Banks. He added that she’s welcome back to the show anytime. “I welcome her back anytime. I would never say an ill thing about any of our queens. I hope that she sees this experience as something she can grow and learn from.”
