With the world still keeping an eye on the Trayvon Martin case, Hollywood is turning its sights onto another horrific murder case. According to EURweb, Octavia Spencer and Michael B. Jordan are in talks to star in Fruitvale, a film based on the killing of Oscar Grant.
On New Year’s Day 2009 Grant was detained and eventually murdered with a gunshot to the back by Bay Area Transit Authority police. His murder was captured with numerous cell phone cameras. The officers who pulled the trigger were tried and acquitted of all charges, essentially causing riots and protests in the Los Angles area.
If both actors accept the deal, the movie will begin filming this July. The Oscar winner will play Grant’s mother, while Jordan will play Grant himself. The independent film will be produced by Forest Whitaker and his Significant Productions partner Nia Young.
