LeBron James is making moves off the court with his production company SpringHill Entertainment.
The NBA superstar has picked up a scripted drama about activist and entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker with Academy Award-winner Octavia Spencer attached.
According to Variety, the project is set to be a limited series with James executive producing with SpringHill’s co-founder Maverick Carter. A source also revealed that Netflix is interested in picking up the series and will likely be the destination.
“I am really proud of this project and that SpringHill will be partnering with Octavia to tell this important story,” James said in a statement. “Every American should all know the story of Madam C. J. Walker. She was an innovator, entrepreneur, social activist, and total game changer whose story has been left out of the history books. I hope this project lives up to her legacy with a story that will educate and inspire.”
The series is expected to be James’ entry into prestige TV, which is likely with Spencer attached.
Spencer recently completed Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, which is set for release later this year. She’s also attached to Ascendant, which is part of The Divergent franchise.
