Looks like we’ll have more scripted programming highlighting Black girl magic. Comedian Phoebe Robinson and Insecure writer Amy Aniobi are set to have their own Amazon series titled Homecoming Queen.
As reported by Hollywood Black Renaissance, both Robinson and Aniobi will serve as co-executive producers of the project alongside Jill Soloway (Transparent) through Soloway’s production company. Robinson is also set to star in this project.
No other information regarding the series has been released.
“Love these two women,” Issa Rae said on Twitter about the news. “So effortlessly hilarious! Go @janiobi and @dopequeenpheebs!”
Robinson has been making waves for a while as 1/2 of 2 Dope Queens alongside friend and comedian, Jessica Williams. The pair produce the weekly podcast through WNYC Studios. She also just scored a 20-minute live pop culture show on Twitter’s #WhatsHappening, that will air Monday through Friday.
On top of working on Insecure, Silicon Valley and Awkward Black Girl, Aniobi is writing the screenplay for an adaptation of La La Anthony’s The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness to be co-produced by Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment and Codeblack Films.
