Coming to the stage April 23 is the Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun.
The play stars Denzel Washington as Walter Lee Younger, Sophie Okonedo as his wife Ruth, and Anika Noni Rose as Beneatha. LaTanya Richardson Jackson, wife of Samuel L. Jackson, will play Lena the matriarch, stepping in to replace Diahann Carroll’s spot after she dropped out of the show.
Anika Noni Rose spoke to ESSENCE about what it means to be a part of the cast of Raisin, “I don’t ever remember not being aware of A Raisin in the Sun,” she said. “So it’s interesting to then be doing it. We keep circling each other, the raisin and I.”
The show, also starring Stephen Tyrone Williams, Jason Dirden, Stephen McKinley, David Cromer and Bryce Clyde Jenkins, is set for a 14-week run at the Barrymore Theatre in New York City.
