There’s a lot to be thankful for today: it’s finally Friday, the worst Black History Month in recent history has finally come to an end, and there’s new music!
After days of teasing her upcoming album, Solange finally dropped When I Get Home, her follow-up to 2016’s A Seat at the Table. Once again, the singer has made an album for us that encompasses our every emotion.
Meanwhile, Megan The Stallion dropped the video for “Big Ole Freak” on Thursday; another Houston girl making the city proud.
And, Sammie is back with a new album, Everlasting, that reflects a little of what we’re missing in today’s R&B.
Here’s a quick list of what we couldn’t stop listening to this week.
1. Solange – When I Get Home
What was waiting for us when we got home? This album. Well, actually, we were waiting for it. The album dropped at midnight on the east coast—because who needs sleep when you have Solange?—and was worth the wait.
It’s hard to pick a favorite track! My personal faves at the moment are Almeda, Dreams, Binz, and Sound of Rain—but that could change—so we suggest listening to the album multiple time before coming to a conclusion.
Solange’s new album also credits a number of notable names like Pharrell, Tyler the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, and Raphael Saadiq.
Not only did the good sis save Black History Month, but she ushered us into Women’s History Month with an album that will keep up fed, hydrated, and moisturized for months to come.
2. Megan Thee Stallion – “Big Ole Freak”
Megan Thee Stallion is another Houston woman making the city proud.
The rapper dropped her video for “Big Ole Freak” on Thursday, which features the singer rapping sultry lyrics in a bubble-filled tub, swinging around in a hoop, and twerking with her girls.
We’re also fans of the all-red vibe she has going on in the video.
3. Tierra Whack – “Clones”True to her word, Tierra Whack has dropped another full-length single.
Produced by Nick Verruto, “Clones” follows last week’s “Only Child” and is a confident, bass-heavy track that calls out those who try to steal the singer’s style and flow.
4. Sammie – Everlasting
Sammie is back with a new album, Everlasting.
The singer’s fourth studio album, Everlasting is a pure celebration of love, it’s ups and downs, and a personal reflection on growth.
“When I began to date, my mother sat me down to explain to me that every relationship I have– good or bad, will shape me into the man I will become,” he said in a statement. “All of my experiences with women will have an everlasting affect on me.”
Tracks like “Funeral,” “Issues,” and “Success vs. Love” show the singer grappling with love lost and balancing the issues that come with fame and relationships.
Along with the new release, the singer dropped a video for “H.L.I.T.L,” a perfect video to lead the album.
5. Zaena x Jason Maek – “Chillin”Zaena and Jason Maek have arrived with two new videos, “Chillin” and “Overtime.”
Currently our fave, “Chillin” is mellow, murky, and an examination of life’s expectations. If you plan to stay in this weekend, we suggest adding this to your playlist for the ultimate lazy Saturday.
6. Cardi B & Bruno Mars – “Please Me”
After teaming up for another hit, Cardi B and Bruno Mars have finally shared the video for “Please Me.”
The video is the perfect complement to the steamy single, featuring Cardi and Bruno cruising around Los Angeles, grinding in a restaurant, and giving us cute choreo.
