Queen Latifah’s plans to bring the life story of Bessie Smith to the small screen are moving along.
According to Indiewire, Latifah is set to star in a film to be titled Blue Goose Hollow; backed by HBO and her production company, Flavor Unit. Casting to fill the other roles in the film have begun, with a projected mid-June starting date.
Blue Goose Hollow will detail Smith’s life as one of the greatest blues singer in America who also became the highest-paid African American performer of the 1920s. Pariah director Dee Rees is set to write and helm the film.
Earlier today, The Queen Latifah Show snagged two daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Achievement in hairstyling (her hair is always on point) and Outstanding Achievement in lighting direction. Congrats!
