The world premiere of Lena Waithe’s highly-anticipated Queen & Slim will kick off the AFI Fest 2019 for their opening night gala on November 14.
Dubbed “the Black Bonnie & Clyde” in film circles, the Melina Matsoukas-directed flick stars Daniel Kaluuya and newbie actress Jodie Smith-Turner, who play a couple forced to go on the run after a fatal altercation with a police officer on their first date.
“Terrified and in fear for their lives, the man, a retail employee, and the woman, a criminal defense lawyer, are forced to go on the run,” the film synopsis says. “But the incident is captured on video and goes viral, and the couple unwittingly become a symbol of trauma, terror, grief and pain for people across the country.”
Queen & Slim hits nationwide theaters on November 27, 2019.
