The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to Quincy Brown and his father, Al B. Sure!.
Over the years, the pair have worked on their father-son relationship, and the culmination of it came to life in Quincy’s new video for “I Can Tell You” featuring his dad.
“Quincy, you’re ready,” the R&B legend says to his son in the opening of the video. “I know you’re ready. The world is ready, the universe is ready. Let’s do it. Quincy 2.0.”
The video pans out to a little girl running toward a line of women, all waiting to see Quincy perform on stage. The entire video is essentially Quincy singing to a crowd of excited young women, while his parents —yes, Kim Porter is in it too— sitting back and watching proudly.
“I’m a human being so of course hearing about any family member being disappointed with you is devastating, but what can you do? I’m a human being and my job is to fix it,” Al B. Sure told ESSENCE in 2009, in response to an open letter his son penned to him about being absent in his life.
“I will not engage in a private family matter with the public, but I will say that Quincy is the most wonderful, kind young man in the world, and whatever he and I are going through we are going to work it out and that’s all that counts.”
Seven years later and it appears the pair have truly mended their relationship, enough to even make music together. And while the video is a bit odd… it’s great to see the pair indulging in their love of music together.
