Lolita “Roxanne Shanté” Gooden rose to hip-hop prominence with her response song to UTFO’s classic hit “Roxanne Roxanne” with the Marley Marl-produced “Roxanne’s Revenge.” The song would later spark the “Roxanne Wars,” most notably “The Real Roxanne,” produced by Full Force.
Shanté was also the only female member of the legendary Juice Crew and was part of the infamous “Bridge Wars” against the South Bronx’s Boogie Down Productions.
Shanté would release two albums on Cold Chillin Records before leaving the rap game to pursue her college education. She is now a producer of the movie alongside Pharrell Williams, Forest Whitaker, and Ralph McDaniels.
Roxanne Roxanne stars Chanté Adams, Mahershala Ali, Nia Long, Elvis Nolasco, Kevin Phillips, and Shenell Edmonds.
