Fans could get a female-led Black Panther spinoff if Marvel signs off on the idea.
Director Ryan Coogler told Elvis Mitchell during a discussion at the Cannes Film Festival that he’s 100 percent into the idea. “Oh man, that would be amazing if the opportunity came up,” Coogler said. “They did it in the comic-book version.”
Variety reports that during the discussion Coogler touched on the importance of the women of Wakanda, saying that the women were just as important as the men, “I think you could argue they are more important.”
“There’s a whole section of the film where T’Challa is out of the movie and you’re just following the women,” Coogler added, discussing the segment of the film where T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is left for dead after battling Killmonger (Michael B. Jorda). “That’s one of my favorite parts of the movie when I watched it, and I didn’t expect that.”
Letitia Wright, the breakout star who played Shuri, is fully behind the idea of a female-led spin-off, tweeting on Thursday, “Ready big bro.”
