This week’s music releases included long-awaited singles and collaborations from industry favorites—and one of our must-listens is a new song from Saweetie and Jhene Aiko titled “Back to the Streets.” This marks the third time the California-born artists have worked together, with the first being the “My Type” remix and the second being a rework of Aiko’s soul-baring cut “Triggered.”
On October 22, the “Tap In” rapper hosted a virtual listening party presented by Warner Bros and Jack Daniels, where she also debuted her new signature cocktail called the “Saweet and Sour.” Fans who tuned in were able to listen to the track before its official release.
“Back to the Streets” empowers women to be liberated and focus on their bag, without putting too much time and energy into men. On the track, the artists highlight their best qualities and willingness to send a man “back to the streets,” if he’s not meeting their needs. “Yeah, you know I leveled up/I can’t be stuck/I wish you luck though,” Jhene sings during her verse.
Saweetie matches Jhene’s laid back, blunt vibe by laying down some icy bars of her own. “My ex used to act like he owned me/Ain’t enough just to treat me like a trophy/I had that, past that, knew I had to trash that,” she raps over production from Timbaland.
This song is a new teaser from Saweetie’s debut studio album, currently titled Pretty Bitch Music. Listen to it below.
