The Shade Room founder Angelica Nwandu is making her first foray into the film world with new film Night Comes On, and now the moving drama’s first trailer is finally here.
In the nearly two-minute clip, Angel LaMere, played by The Deuce’s Dominique Fishback, is released from juvenile detention on the eve of her 18th birthday. As she reconnects with her 10-year-old sister (Tatum Marilyn Hall), she also plots to avenge their mother’s death. Images of LaMere cocking and fondling guns are interspersed with her playing in the ocean with her sister and images of their father.
After submitting their script to the Sundance Screenwriters Lab four years ago and winning a NEXT Innovator Award at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Nwandu and co-writer Jordana Spiro are mere weeks away from their filmmaking debut. The powerful feature, where Spiro is also a director and executive producer, is a first for breakout stars Fishback and Hall, reports IndieWire.
It’s absolutely a moving, heartfelt drama similar to Moonlight and other black realism movies.
The film has been acquired by Samuel Goldwyn Films and will be available in theaters and on VOD August 3.
