The classic Showtime At The Apollo talent show is back and they are bringing one hip-hop and R&B’s favorite duos, Ja Rule and Ashanti, to the stage.
Showtime has been off the air for the last eight years, but now it’s back with two upcoming specials, the first of which will air on Monday, Dec. 5 on FOX. Steve Harvey will host the two-hour special. He will host another special on FOX in 2017.
The reboot will include performances from already established stars, like Ja Rule and Ashanti. But producers are sure to include elements of the theater’s signature “Amateur Night” event, which launched the careers of James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo, and even Harvey – the show’s host from 1993-2000.

The event is responsible for launching the careers of superstars like Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Michael Jackson, James Brown, D. Angelo, and The Jackson 5.
“I’m excited to be going back home to the Apollo to celebrate the history of this great theater,” said Harvey, when the return was first announced with him attached. “I have great memories from my time there, and this is going to be a homecoming party that you won’t want to miss.”
