Octavia Spencer made her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live, and reprised a role from one of her Oscar-nominated movies: The Help‘s Minny Jackson
In a Forrest Gump parody cold open, a bunch of characters sit at a bus stop bench in Alabama and begin chatting to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, played by SNL cast member Kate McKinnon. The former Alabama senator is facing accusations that he lied during his confirmation hearings about his contacts with Russian officials during President Donald Trump’s presidential bid.
One of those characters is the sassy Minny Jackson, a role from The Help that earned Spencer a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 2012.
As Minny sits down by Sessions, she asks him if he is “the one Coretta Scott King wrote that letter about?”
King wrote a powerful nine page letter to the Senate in 1986 urging them to vote down Sessions’ nomination for a judgeship.
“Oh wow, well that was 40 years ago. You still remember that?” a bumbling Sessions responds.
Minny then offers Sessions a pie she baked especially for him. Fans of The Help will remember that Minny baked a similar chocolatey-looking pie for her mean employer. A pie that was baked with …special ingredients.
“Mmm, my favorite!” Sessions says, taking a bite of the pie.
Sometime justice is based served with pie!
