If making sci-fi history wasn’t enough, Sonequa Martin-Green is lining up her next gig — and it’s major.
The Star Trek: Discovery star and recent ESSENCE digital cover girl is reportedly in negotiations to join basketball icon LeBron James in what is now being referred to as Space Jam 2.
Variety reports that sources reveal that the burgeoning beauty will play James’ wife in the yet-to-be titled sequel, which already has Random Acts of Flyness creator Terence Nance attached as director. Black Panther helmer Ryan Coogler is on board to produce alongside James and his partner Maverick Carter.
The follow-up has been in the rumor mill since 2015 when James signed a content creation deal with Warner Bros. Productions through his SpringHill Entertainment company.
In the original 1996 live action/animation hybrid, then NBA superstar Michael Jordan teamed up with Looney Tunes characters to battle a group of animated aliens on the court. It grossed over $230 million worldwide and delivered R. Kelly’s inspirational ballad “I Believe I Can Fly” as its anthem.
The new film will reportedly find Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes joining forces with James on the court to battle an unknown entity.
Space Jam 2 is expected to start production this summer during James’ NBA off-season, and slated to hit theaters July 2021.
