Spike Lee‘s next project is truly Shakespearean.
The filmmaker will direct Prince of Cats, a 1980s-set hip-hop take on Romeo and Juliet that tells the infamous story of the star-crossed lovers through the eyes of Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will see Tybalt and his Capulet brothers navigating the underground world of Da People’s Republic of Brooklyn.
The film is adapted from a graphic novel of the same name, written and illustrated by Ronald Wimberly, Lee noted on Instagram.
He added in his caption, “Alright. OK. Dat Cat Iz Literally Out Of Da Bag.”
Lee last directed BlacKkKlansman, taking home the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, his first Academy win ever. The film starred John David Washington, Adam Driver, and Laura Harrier.
