12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen may be turning to the keys for his next big project.
The acclaimed director known for gut-wrenching dramas — including his forthcoming thriller Widows, out November 16 — wants to work on a musical.
“I want to do a musical. I want to make myself happy,” he said during an interview with British TV show, The Andrew Marr Show. “Right now, [the world] is dark, it’s heavy, there’s no ifs, buts, maybes about it, it’s so unsure and uncertain and I think I need to shake off the blues and make us all happy.”
The Oscar-winning director may be betting on a sure thing if he’s serious about creating musicals. Previously, musical films like The Greatest Showman and La La Land, have impressed the Academy and we don’t see why McQueen can’t put his own spin on it.
