This year’s Global Citizen Festival is set to be another epic event.
The annual festival will take place on the Great Lawn in Central Park, New York City on September 23. Headliners include Stevie Wonder, The Lumineers, The Killers, Green Day, and featuring The Chainsmokers.
Pharrell Williams, Andra Day, Big Sean, and Alessia Cara will make special guest appearances with more to be announced.
The Global Citizen Festival is an annual free event that calls on world leaders and citizens to take a stand on issues such as poverty, education, gender quality, healthcare, food security, and sanitation.
This year’s festival also kicks off the inaugural Global Citizen Week, a week of activities that will include a film and art series, concerts, and forums and seminars on development issues.
“In this crucial time, there is nothing more exciting to me than having the honor of giving my gift of song, words and motivation to the Global Citizen Festival,” Wonder said in a statement. “When we commit ourselves to life issues, we are showing love of the Most High. I was, I am and will always be, a citizen connected to the spirit of everyone on this planet moving forward. Let’s go!”
MSNBC & Comcast NBCUniversal will air a live simulcast of the full concert on MSNBC and MSNBC.com. The Global Citizen Festival will also team up with the iHeartRadio Music Festival for the second year in a row, allowing for unique collaborations and and a special cross-over performance by Big Sean.
Fans and activists can earn tickets by participating in three Action Journeys: For Freedom, For Justice, For All, with today marking the launch of “Action Journey 1: For Freedom,” in which Global Citizens will complete actions in support of girls’ education, maternal health, increased foreign aid, and more.
