On Thursday, stars flocked to Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre for the world premiere of Melina Matsoukas and Lena Waithe‘s Queen & Slim at AFI Fest.
The film, co-written by James Frey, follows Queen and Slim, a couple on their first date when a traffic stop results in the death of a police officer.
The film’s stars—ESSENCE’s November cover star Jodie Turner-Smith and Academy Award-nominated actor Daniel Kaluuya—walked the carpet alongside Waithe and Matsoukas and a number of familiar faces. Everyone from Rihanna to Snoop Dogg came out to show support for the film, which arrives in theaters on November 27.
