Well, it looks like we’ll finally be learning more about one of our favorite Pearsons very soon. On an upcoming installment of NBC’s hit show, This Is Us, veteran actor Phylicia Rashad guest stars as Beth’s mom, and we absolutely cannot wait!
On the episode title, “Our Little Island Girl,” Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) and her cousin Zoe (Melanie Liburd) hit the road to visit Beth’s mom, Carol, in D.C. Through the trip and conversations with Carol and Beth’s teacher, Vincent (Goran Visnjic), viewers will learn more about one of This Is Us’ most popular characters. It also seems like we’re going to get some answers about that ominous flash-forward scene involving Beth and the dance studio featured at the end of the fall finale.
“We’re going to get the full story, and it’s about where she goes from here,” Watson told Entertainment Weekly, which also shared exclusive images the show. “Now that we know what’s been bothering her, what’s been in on her mind, and where she finally wants to go, now what is she going to do?”
Since This Is Us began, fans have compared the Black Pearsons to another iconic TV family, the Huxtables, so Watson said it was only fitting Rashad would make an appearance on the show.
“One of the biggest comparisons I hear is how Beth reminds people of Claire Huxtable,” she said. “It almost feels like the only person it could be.”
This Is Us airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
