Tiffany Haddish flexed her comedic chops as the host of last night’s (June 18) MTV Awards.
In the four-minute opening skit, the Girls Trip star traveled to Wakanda with a little comic help from Lil Rel Howery, Queen Latifah, and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Outfitted in Jabari tribe garb, Haddish takes a break from her Groupon-discounted stay at the Wakanda Sheraton to battle T’Challa to grapefruiting.
“Wait, Tiffany, you don’t have to do this,” Smith suggests, to which Haddish replies, “Easy for you to say, Jada. I need this gig. You and Latifah got paid for Girls Trip.”
“I still can’t believe how much they paid me,” Latifah joked. “Dumb money.”
Luckily for PG-rated audience members, Haddish does a TLC-style dance to “Waterfalls” instead then fights to the almost-death. In the end, T’Challa disintegrates as a nod to the ending of Avengers: Infinity War and Haddish becomes the Black Unicorn, ready to rule the awards ceremony.
Unsurprisingly, the hosting gig was packed with sexual innuendos, silly quips and pop culture references only Hollywood’s “It” funny girl could pull off. In other words, it was perfect.
