Tuesday morning, Broadway fans woke bright and early to find out who’s been nominated for the theatre world’s most prestigious award, the Tony.
Last year’s nominees included memorable work from Cynthia Erivo, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., and George C. Wolfe. And, this year’s nominees were just as incredible.
Corey Hawkins received a nom for his lead role in Six Degrees of Separation and Ruben Santiago-Hudson earned a directing nom for August Wilson’s Jitney, while Condola Rashad was recognized for her work in A Doll’s House, Part 2.
Lynn Nottage’s Sweat earned three nominations: Best Play, Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for both Johanna Day and Michelle Wilson.
Jitney also received a nomination for Best Play Revival with John Douglas Thompson earning recognition for hs featured role in the play.
And, Denee Benton landed a nomination for her lead role in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.
The Tony Awards will air Sunday, June 11 on CBS.
