Following the release of their first album in 18 years, A Tribe Called Quest unveiled the video for “We The People.”
From new LP We got it from Here… Thank You 4 Your service, ”We The People” highlights the issues we’re facing today. Q-Tip told Beats 1 Radio, “We’re just lovely musicians and artists and that’s all we do, is speak and paint pictures and try to speak to a climate but hopefully we will call some sort of uprising internally in that young Jimmy Carter and that young Angela Davis. Hopefully we will, ‘cause that’s the type of thing we do. And that’s why ‘We The People’ is more of an encompassing and not just us—it’s all of us as people.”
The video includes rooftop shots where people are setting up a PA system, which eventually blasts an emergency siren. Soon, folks are rushing to the streets to protest. The video also includes an animated Phife Dawg rapping his verse.
The video for “We The People” comes after Q-Tip’s announcement that Tribe might embark on a world tour. He told Billboard, “This is our last record, and we’ll probably do a world tour. After that, that’s it, for the rest of our lives.”
