Viola Davis has signed on to play former First Lady Michelle Obama in a new Showtime series.
Variety reports the network is currently working on First Ladies, a series that will take a look at the personal and political lives of First Ladies throughout history.
Season one will reportedly focus on Obama, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt. Davis will executive produce the series alongside husband and producing partner Julius Tennon through the pair’s JuVee Productions.
Showtime has given the one-hour drama a three-script commitment, tapping novelist Aaron Cooley to write and executive produce the series.
Davis, who met the Obamas on a few occasions, tweeted her love for the former First Lady in 2017, writing as the Obamas left the White House, “May you continue to shine your light and impact future generations to come!”
We’ll be keeping our eye out for more news surrounding the project.
