Viola Davis already has an Oscar, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, and two Tony Awards, and judging from the trailer of her next film, she’s coming to collect even more trophies.
Davis stars in Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen’s latest feature, Widows, which centers on four women whose lives are turned upside down when their husbands are killed before they can pull off a major heist. When the women realize they’re on the hook for their husbands’ debts, they pull together to try to finish the job.
While most action films are headlined by men, in Widow the women are in the spotlight and have to take matters into their own hands to survive.
As Davis, who plays Veronica, explains to her friend and fellow widow, “We’re on our own. They owed a lot of money, and now people want it from us. Now the best thing we have going for us is being who we are.”
Based on a British miniseries by the same name, Davis heads up an all-star cast, which features Cynthia Erivo, Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Garret Dillahunt, Jon Bernthal, Liam Neeson, Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry, and Get Out star, Daniel Kaluuya.
Widows hits theaters November 16, 2018. Watch the intense trailer below.
