Even if you know very little about tennis, you should be hype about all the black girl magic happening on the court. With her sister Serena Williams nursing her newborn, Venus is holding down the family name during the US Open. And her next opponent is none other than fellow dope black woman, Sloane Stephens.
The ladies have been kicking butt on the court and will now face off for the US Open Women’s Singles Semi-Finals on Thursday.
As reported by The Root, Williams, 37, reached the finals in both the Australian Open and Wimbledon earlier this year. She is looking to win her 50th WTA singles championship. With her sister at home resting with a new baby, Venus is looking to keep the Williams name at the top of the tennis charts with a win on Thursday over a competitor thirteen years her junior, Sloane Stephens.
Stephens, 24, made history on Tuesday by becoming the first American woman besides the Williams sisters to advance to the semi-finals in the U.S. Open. The victory is extra special for Stephens, who was off the tour for nearly a year after having foot surgery.
We’ll be tuning in and cheering on both ladies— either way it’s a win for us all.
