Where can you go to hear Black girl’s issues discussed during the day and Black joy girl exalted at night? Harlem, of course.
Founded in London and currently being held on five separate continents, the Wow – Women of the World Festival is coming to the Apollo Theater later this month to not only connect amazing women with one another by giving them an opportunity to share their stories, but also applaud the power of their talent.
Organizers of this year’s New York festival are placing Black women’s voices at the forefront of the conversation by bringing together some of the most powerful thinkers for three days of dynamic panels, transformative workshops, and exciting stage performances. The festival, organized and curated by the Apollo, will also feature a comedy show dedicated to celebrating the spirit of Women of the World through laughter.
Singer Alice Smith and other performers will be sharing their talents this year alongside White House Correspondent April Ryan, poet Nikki Giovanni, anthropologist Johnnetta B. Cole, and educator and activist Angela Davis who will be engaging in dialogues about how we can continue to work towards building a world where women are truly considered equal.
Journeys will be explored, intersections will be crossed, and real issues will be prioritized in this space. Join ESSENCE as we support women standing together.
The WOW Festival will take place at Harlem’s Apollo Theater from March 12-17. Tickets for select events start at just $22 and many events are completely free. Visit apollotheater.org/wow-festival-2019 for additional information.
