We could all use more Yvonne Orji in our lives, and we’ll get some in her new film Night School. The Insecure actress will star alongside Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) in the comedy about a group of classmates working to get their GED.
This will be Orji’s breakout role and the first time we’re seeing Haddish work with Hart— in layman’s terms: this should be good.
As reported by Deadline, Hart will produce for his Hartbeat Productions along with Will Packer via his Will Packer Productions. James Lopez, head of motion pictures for Will Packer Productions, will executive produce. Senior Vice President of Production Kristin Lowe will oversee production for Universal. The movie is set to open on September 28, 2018.
Orji has previously had small roles in television projects including Jane the Virgin and Love That Girl, but this will be her first on-screen role. The 33-year-old did write and star in First Gen a semi-autobiographical comedy which has David Oyelowo and Oprah Winfrey attached as exec producers. The series centers on Joanna (Orji), a first generation Nigerian-American who trades in a stable career in medicine for a career in stand up comedy.
No word on when filming for Night School will begin, but we’ll be keeping our eyes open.
