Once again, Drake blessed music lovers on Saturday (Mar 18) with a collection of music called “More Life”.
The 22-track playlist had a gamut of features from well-known artists like Kanye West, 2 Chainz and Sampha, to newcomers like Jorga Smith and Snoh Aalegra. And while many are saying it draws inspiration from Toronto and London, there’s also a distinct nod to South Africa heard throughout the project.
One of the individuals Drake worked with on “More Life” is Durban-bred talent Black Coffee, whose “Superman” song was reworked for the playlist track,”Get It Together”. While some may be unfamiliar with the multitalented DJ and producer, the 41-year-old mastermind is considered one of the most prominent electronic music producers in the continent.

In addition to releasing five albums in his 22-year career and being awarded the “Breakthrough DJ Of The Year” by the 2015 DJ Awards, Black Coffee has traveled the world with his music. He was even inducted in the “Guinness Book of World Records” when he did a non-stop 60-hour DJ set at a charity event in 2010.
On the personal side of things, Black was just married to his longtime partner Mbali Mlotshwa, and is a resident DJ at a popular Ibiza nightclub.
“People are going to love his version of the song but it won’t erase the original,” Black told East Coast Radio about “Get It Together.” “People had mixed feelings, like, ‘Why would you give someone else your song? It is your song! Why are you letting them shine on the song?’ But my understanding is different,” he added. “I would love for our music to be exported on that level.”
In addition to Drake’s work with Black Coffee, he also titled uptempo-track, “Madiba Riddim” after South Africa’s former president and anti-apartheid revolutionary, Nelson Mandela.
