Zendaya is inviting us to walk a mile in her shoes: The 19-year-old actress launched her new shoe collection, Daya by Zendaya, inviting heel-loving men and women to experience the feel of luxury shoes—for a cool $110 or less.
“The average woman can not just go out and buy however many Christian Louboutins they want,” Zendaya told InStyle. “But they want that luxury and they want that feeling, and I think they deserve that as well.”
“I think that women—and not just women because boys rock heels too—deserve to have something that feels not like a look for less, you know? Something that feels like the look. It doesn’t feel like a knockoff.”
With her new collection, currently available at Nordstrom with prices ranging from $70 to $110, the teenage star gives an affordable, yet appealing, option to all of us who can’t afford designer prices.
“I was inspired by the women in my life: my oldest sister, my niece, my little nieces who will soon be wearing heels, you know, because they’re all working women who are either in college, or a mother, or a young girl who is still in school and about to go to her first school dance.”
Zendaya worked with her stylist, Law Roach, to design a line that represents her fearless fashion sense. “We’ve worked very, very hard at creating moments with fashion,” she told us. “I think that has very much transcended into everything that we do, including these shoes.”
“We don’t have rules or any really rhyme or reason as to why we do things. We just do it because it feels good, and I think that’s how people should just dress in general,” she said. Her new collection is a manifestation of that mindset. From lacy pumps to strappy flats and everything in between, Zendaya seemingly has created a shoe for every mood.
Her go-to, though, is a classic pointy-toe pump. “It just looks good with everything,” she said. “It’s funny because I’m so accustomed to wearing them, now they’ve become like the most comfortable shoe for me.”
But if your heels aren’t as comfy as sneakers just yet, this style star has a few tips and tricks to get you there. Step one: “I add an extra squishy padding underneath in all of my shoes.”
Step two isn’t as much of a quick fix: practice, practice, practice! “I was not good at walking in heels when I first started walking in heels. Absolutely not,” she said. “You’ve got to walk around the house in them. Do random stuff in them, like your chores. Walk around in them if you have something coming up where you have to wear heels.”
