News broke this week that fashion industry veteran Anna Wintour will be collaborating with global apparel brand Nike, for an exclusive collection of Wintour-approved sneakers.
Never did the fashion world expect to hear those words in the same sentence, yet here we are. According to the Jordan brand’s website, Nike approcahed Wintour via Vogue magazine, with the intent to have a new release of women’s Air Jordan sneakers ‘edited’ like an issue of a magazine; Wintour’s signature for signing off on Vogue pages “AWOK” will be placed onto the bottom of the sneaker denoting her final approval.
There are four versions of the new sneaker-
Air Jordan 1 “High Zip AWOK” (in red and white colorways)
Air Jordan III “SE AWOK” (in red and black tweed colorways)
Outside of clothing labels, celebrities or prominent fashion designers doing collaborations with a sneaker brand, this marks the rare time that a prominent fashion editor or director has placed their stamp of design approval onto a sneaker.
We’ve seen sneaker collaborations before and the trend has been raging for 10+ years now. There’s…
Teyana Taylor x Adidas
Comme Des Garçons ‘PLAY’ x Converse Chuck Taylor’s
Kanye West x Adidas ‘Yeezy Boost’
Pharrell Williams x Adidas ‘Hue-Man’ Model
Vlone (via A$AP Rocky, Bari and Edison Chen) x Nike Air Force 1
The remodeled Air Jordan 1 sneakers will be available starting July 21st, while the tweed Air Jordan III sneakers will be available in September.
