When it comes luxury fashion brands, there are a few that dominate, and Louis Vuitton was just named the number one fashion brand.
Each year, Interbrand releases their Best Global Brands list, which measures a brand’s earnings as well as its influence on customers and ranks accordingly. Although Apple held the position for number one brand overall, Louis Vuitton, which came in at 19, was named the highest ranked luxury brand.
Interbrand’s global director Rebecca Robins mentioned Louis Vuitton’s recent collaboration with streetwear brand Supreme as having an influence on its high ranking.
In an interview with The Business of Fashion, Robins said, “Louis Vuitton has connected the brand into culture. When we look at Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Hermès what is the magic with these brands? Not only are they going strong operationally, but it’s their relationship between brand and culture and they are doing it in a way that is of the moment and relevant but also sustainable. It’s not a flash-in-the-pan. It’s well thought through, strategically driven and delivered with the strength of their conviction.”
Hermés was named the second top luxury fashion brand, and was ranked at number 32 on the list. Gucci, which ranked at 51, was listed as the third luxury fashion brand of the year. Other fashion brands that were also included in the top hundred spots included Burberry, Prada, and Dior.
Burberry and Prada seem to be on the decline though since Burberry dropped three places and Prada dropped 13 places since last year. Additionally, Ralph Lauren, which was ranked at 98 last year, fell completely out of the top 100 this year.
