On Tuesday, Beyoncé presented Colin Kaepernick with the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award at the 2017 Sports Illustrated SportsPerson of the Year Awards. While the true star of the evening was Kaepernick for the highly deserved honor, Beyoncé’s dress came in second place.
Beyoncé hit the stage at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY in a form-fitting black and silver mini dress by Black designer LaQuan Smith. To say that the singer absolutely slayed the look is an understatement.
As Smith said, “BEY BODIED in #LaquanSmith Iconic moment @sportsillustrated Muhammad Ali Legacy Award.”
Recently, Kaepernick also made headlines when he requested to only wear Black designers for his recent GQ cover.
Beyoncé paired the look with a pair of silver Giuseppe Zanotti heels and Lorraine Schwartz earrings, but the most significant part of Beyoncé’s outfit was definitely her dress. By choosing to wear a dress designed by a Black designer for presenting such a legendary award to Kaepernick, Beyoncé used her outfit to silently speak one message very loud and clear: like Kaepernick, she’s Black and she’s proud.
Black excellence at its absolute finest!
