Congrats are in order for Christopher John Rogers as it was just announced today that he is a finalist for the CFDA/Vouge Fashion Fund. The 24-year-old designer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana is “putting NYFW back on the map as a breeding ground for glamour,” according to Teen Vogue. You may have seen his look on some of your favorite celebrities including Tracee Ellis Ross, Michelle Obama and most recently his neon green number worn by Lizzo at Monday night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards.
From runway shows to red carpets, the designer never fails to wow an audience with his work. Rogers is breaking down barriers in the fashion industry by working with all body types and genders to make anyone that he dresses look fabulous.
Rogers isn’t the only Black designer nominated for the fashion fund this year; burgeoning talent Abdul Abasi of Abasi Rosborough received a nod as well. The winner will get a $400k prize and the much-needed buzz that can help them break through in an industry that’s super exclusive. Past winners include Telfar Clemens, Aurora James, and Kerby-Jean Raymond. Cheers to the finalists and as always, “we’re rooting for everybody black!”
