The long-running fitness franchise found themselves at the center of backlash over an ad that was supposedly aimed at encouraging women to work out. The questionable photo was shared from the Facebook page of Gold’s Gym Dreamland, which is located in Giza, Egpyt. In the ad, a photo of a pear is placed next to the words, “this is no shape for a girl” written just below the Gold’s Gym logo. Naturally, the sexist post was met with much criticism from social media users who immediately reminded the franchise that women of all shapes and sizes are beautiful.

The post has since been removed from the Facebook page. The franchise later issued a brief statement apologizing for the photo shortly after taking it down, which was quickly followed by a lengthier apology from the specific location in Egypt.
