Founders of Dreamville and Daily Paper J.Cole, Hussein Suleiman, Abderrahmane Trabsini, and Jefferson Osei are paying homage to Africa’s University of Timbuktu / Sankore, a historical university that is recognized as the first educational institute in the world. The capsule collection, entitled “Dream Daily,” is an ideation of what Dreamville X Daily Paper’s own university style would look like. As someone who grew up wearing uniforms, I’ve never been more excited to put one on. The campaign is reminiscent of yearbook pictures sans the awkwardness of the ones many of us have taken. Coming in the colorways of maroon and sandy, the uniformity is broken down with patches of joint logo motifs from both the recording label and brand.
The campaign also features a video that goes behind the scenes a bit on the collaborative and design process and previews a look into the final product being shown to the world via festival performances.
The campaign features members of both Daily Paper and Dreamville, including Bas, Lute, Nitrane, Cedric Brown, Raeana Anaïs, and Ibrahim Hamad. The superlatives for them back when they were in school must have been right, as each featured are at the top of their game. Anaïs, who is Dreamville’s Director of Design, says via a press release, “Dream Daily represents our collective mission – and we hope it inspires those who follow both Dreamville and Daily Paper to do just that. Dream Daily, and then put a plan into action to make those dreams come true.”
The capsule collection has seven key pieces, including an online exclusive varsity jacket with wool panels, leather sleeves, and custom joint logo patchwork. A coach jacket, preppy sweatsuit, polo dress, and of course, a school hoodie, all covered in Daily Paper X Dreamville embellishments and graphics, are included in the collection. Even cooler, the collection is also featured on the latest NBA 2K.
If you live in New York City, Daily Paper’s flagship store is giving you a taste of the collection in person with a Dreamville Takeover pop-up on the 24th and 25th of February, 2023. The collection is available to shop on dailypaper.com globally and in flagship stores in Amsterdam, New York, and London.
