The enigma of female fashion photographers is heating up around the globe, but one name you probably have seen but didn’t know the full range of her work, is that of Ms. Itaysha Jordan.
An esteemed photographer, Jordan recently shot our April cover girl Issa Rae in New Orleans, and with years of industry experience under her belt she studied a rigorous art program for her craft before entering the big leagues.
Sharing her exclusive story with ESSENCE for our ‘My Fashion Story’ video series, Jordan never imagined in her younger days that she would be where she is today, “I have been actively pursuing this career path for about 14 years, and I’ve been very blessed to work with a lot of respected individuals— especially women. I’ve worked with Iman, Tina Knowles, Taraji P. Henson and the list goes on,” she says.
Addressing the issues of female empowerment and race within the industry, Jordan says, “I have a duty to speak on it. More than race –even though that is an issue— the bottom line, is you need to be well-versed in what you’re doing.”
Watch our exclusive video above to find out more about Jordan and the bright future that lies ahead of her.
