My beauty M.O. can be summed up in two words: product junkie. I’m willing to try just about every cream, gel or weird concoction out there—especially if it promises to make me look like a perfect human being.
To the contrary, there are certain staples I’ve been using as far back as I can remember and lip gloss is one of them. It’s cheap, fairly moisturizing and looks good with anything. Yesterday (Sept. 8), I was also reminded that it makes for an incredible multi-tasker.
My first stop for NYFW was Creatures Of The Wind’s backstage area, where lead artist Mark Carrasquillo adorned every model (some of which were black- yas!) in strictly NARS Cosmetics. It was so refreshing to see a makeup look that didn’t require a crazy amount of products, and most of the products were skincare-based. They included: Multi Action Hydrating Toner, $32, Luminous Moisture Cream, $64, Eye Cream, $58, Radiant Creamy Concealer, $29, Stick Concealer, $25, All Day Luminous Powder Foundation, $48, Dragon Girl Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, $26, Exhibit A Blush, $30.

And the best part is that he used the Triple X Gloss on their eyelids! That’s right; all it takes is a swipe of gloss to take you from reality to runway in under one minute.
You can also upgrade the highlight on your cheekbones by layering your blush with lip gloss and blending with a brush. Who knew such affordable beauty tricks were waiting backstage?
Everyone’s going gaga for mattes, but it may just be comeback season for this throwback must-have. Stay tuned for more NYFW SS2017 updates!
