Power of the Sister Vote: I traveled down to DC for opening day of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Annual Leadership Conference. First stop: moderating a panel with the Black Women’s Roundtable on our joint poll about the presidential election and the power of the Black women’s vote in 2016. I then switched gears, serving as a panelist with Angela Rye, Erica Ash and Daphne Valerius on the images of Black women and girls in media. Being surrounded by so much Black excellence was a reminder to me that we have more power than we even realize, as NYC First Lady Chirlaine McCray reminded us in her keynote address after the media panel. We just have to own it! You can read the results of our poll in the November issue of Essence.
