Tadashi Shoji
September 8, 2011
For Spring 2012, red carpet favorite Tadashi Shoji went for prim and pretty with hand-painted, strapless silk/linen dresses in fuchsia and celery, metallic beaded gowns, and show-shopping chiffon frocks with dramatically high slits. In his show notes, he admitted to being inspired by the “enchanted beauty and splendor of a tulip,” and thus offered cocktails with tulip skirts, pieces with rosebud appliqués, and floral flair witnessed in off-the-shoulder cocktails with flirty skirts. A beige, one-shoulder chiffon gown with crystal embroidery could easily find its way to the red carpet of the Grammys; a floral lace, bright coral dress with a tiered ruffled skirt would find a home at a garden party. If you care to dress up, there was something for every occasion.
BCBG
September 8, 2011
While BCBG is known for its somewhat subdued predilections and nude or beige-based color palettes, Spring 2012 brought bursts of bright coral, emerald, deep blue, and lemongrass, along with tribal patterns and inspiration. Chic and sporty maxi dresses with geometric designs and high slits bopped down the runway, brought to life by pretty pleats and the airy essences of silk georgette, chiffon, and silk crepe. Three-strap sandals and metallic clutches anchored each look while bright undergarments in citron and bright blue peaked out under low-cut tops. With wrap silhouettes, bright colors, and billowing fabric, the Spring 2012 forecast for BCBG is effortlessly yet eye-catchingly chic.
Nicholas K
September 8, 2011
The beach seemed to inspire Nicholas K’s Spring/Summer 2012 mens and womenswear collection, with white and buff separates in waterfall silhouettes, sand-colored ethereal maxi dresses, and shark blue suits. While each piece looked surprisingly simple in draped cotton jersey or silk chiffon, Nicholas K added drama by offering asymmetrical hems and multiple layers, presenting loose-fit shrugs over mullet dresses, and relaxed vests over top and Capri combos. For the girl who hits the surf yet needs to protect her hair, Nicholas K offered head and neck scarves. Fringed bracelets, thick watches, and chunky sandals accessorized each look.
